"Another lesson in loon communication: how do loons get the message to others in a noisy world"

Jay Mager

I would like to review previous talks about loon life history, the role communication plays in the territorial system, and in this talk I'd like to delve into how loons accurately produce these signals in a way that maximizes transmission of the important qualities accurately and precisely to a receiver.

In terms of biography, I am in my 10th year at Ohio Northern University and have studied loon and loon behavioral ecology for almost 25 years.  Over the past decade (beginning as a PhD student at Cornell), I have conducted research looking into the information communicated by loon vocalizations and continue this work today in various locations across America.
