The chapter has a display consisting of a three part display board, a combination TV/VCR, a stuffed Ring-necked Pheasant, and a bird-related quiz board. Any or all of these items may appear at local environmental activities. We sometimes also make presentations at local events. Some of our recent or upcoming appearances:

Dec 17, 2015: Wolfgang Pelz and Bill Osborne represented GAAS at "Winter Birds of the Christmas Bird Count" held by the Summit County MetroParks at the Seiberling Nature Realm.

Sept 12, 2015: Doug and Michelle Vogus, and Wolfgang Pelz represented GAAS at the PPG Lime Lakes 4 as part of the 115th Anniversary of PPG in Barberton. As part of the activities, the chapter display and the Ring-necked Pheasant were viewed by visitors.

May 8, 2015: Wolfgang Pelz represented GAAS at the Celebration of the designation of the Portage Lakes as the Purple Martin Capital of Ohio held by the Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association at Prime 93.

February 3, 2015: Joyce Pelz' presentation "Attracting Birds" to the Terrace Garden Club meeting at the Cleveland Heights Main library on Lee Road was cancelled. No information about rescheduling is available. Contact Carolyn Quilter for details.

August 17, 2014: Joyce Pelz presented "Attracting Birds to Your Yard" to the Sunday Afternoon Bath Garden Club. The presentation was from 2:00 to 3:00.

March 5, 2014: Joyce Pelz presented "Bring Birds to Your Yard" to the Avon-on-the Lake Garden Club in the The Gallery of the Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake OH 44012. The presentation was from 1:15 to 2:00. Call 440-933-8128 for more information.

February 13, 2014: Joyce Pelz presented "Bring Birds to Your Yard" at the meeting of the Twinsburg Garden Club held in the Twinsburg Senior Center, 10260 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg. The meeting started at 6:30pm and the talk began at approximately 7:30pm.

September 25, 2013: Mark Purdy represented GAAS at "Parks and the Environment," one segment of training for Leadership Akron. Leadership Akron is an organization devoted to strengthening and broadening the base of community leaders for the greater Akron area. 2013 marks the 30th class of leaders receiving training. At this event held at Akron's Summit Lake, 34 participants canoed on the lake, did some birding on and around the lake, and discussed a variety of environmental issues.

June 1, 2013: Joyce Pelz presented "What's That Bird? And More" at Portage Lakes Library, 4261 Manchester Rd, Akron 44319 at 10:30am. Attracting birds to your backyard and bird identification for adults. After presentation, weather permitting, we will take a walk around the property.

February 9, 2013: Joyce Pelz presented "Bring Backyard Birds to your Yard" at Gale's Garden Center, 24373 Center Ridge Road, Westlake OH 44145 at 11:00am. Sign up by contacting Gale's at 440-871-0808.

August 18, 2012: Susan Duppstadt had the display and a stuffed ring-necked pheasant at the Little Cuyahoga River Watershed Festival at Springfield Lake.

July 12, 2012: Joyce Pelz presented "How to Attract Birds to your Healthy Lawn" at the Wadsworth Public Library.

April 20, 2012: The chapter display will be at the Earth Day Environmental Expo 2012 at The University of Akron from 10am until 2pm.

February 19, 2011: Joyce Pelz presented "The Birds in our Backyard" at the garden seminar held by Donzell's.

February 12, 2011: Joyce Pelz presented a talk on the Great Backyard Bird Count at Hoffman's Ace Hardware in Ellet.

January 13, 2011: Joyce Pelz presented "Choosing the Right Feeders" during the Wildlife and Wild Bird Feeding Seminar at Copley Feed and Seed.

October 9, 2010: GAAS had a table at the Oct 9 "Fall Into Nature" event at Bath Nature Preserve from 12 to 5.

June 23, 2010: The presentation by Joyce Pelz on "How to Attract Birds to your Healthy Lawn" at Wadsworth Public Library was cancelled. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

June 20, 2010: The display was at the Buckeye MartinFest organized by the Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association at the Kiwanis Center in the Portage Lakes. It was also the first appearance of the stuffed ring-necked pheasant.

March 23, 2010: Mark Purdy presented "Birding in the Akron Area" to Boy Scout Troop 511 at Granger United Methodist Church in Medina County. The scouts are in the 5th to 9th grades and they are working on their animal tracking merit badge.

March 6, 2010: Joyce Pelz presented "Backyard Birdwatching" at Dayton Nurseries. See Backyard Birdwatching for more details.

October 3, 2009: UA and Bath Nature Preserve had a "Year of the River Stream Restoration Celebration & UA Field Station Open House". There were two Audubon posters as well as bird checklist handouts.

April 16, 2009: The display was at the Earth Day at the University of Akron from 11 to 2.

April 27, 2008: The display was at the Green Faire held by Unitarian Universalist Church.

April 16, 2008: The display was at the Earth Day at the University of Akron from 10 to 3.

February 16, 2008: At 11:00am, Joyce Pelz presented "Our Backyard Birds" at Donzell's Flower and Garden Center.

April 25, 2007: 10 to 1, in the Student Union on the campus of The University of Akron to celebrate Earth Day. Many other environmentally oriented organizations and companies participated including SASWMA, Akron Zoo, Mustard Seed Market, akron Regional Air Quality Management District, Ohio EPA, MetroParks Serving Summit County, Crown Point, and the Sierra Club.

April 14, 2007: 12 noon to 2 p.m., at Buchtel Commons on the campus of The University of Akron, Summit County citizens joined communities across the country to participate in what was likely the largest rallies held in the United States on global warming. The Akron rally is one of 1,300 (and counting) rallies held across the country by Step It Up 2007 , a national grassroots initiative seeking legislative action to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050.

March 15, 2007: The Hudson Garden Club at Laurel Lake Retirement Community will host Joyce Pelz speaking on "Creating Healthy Yards for our Feathered Friends". Meetings open at 7pm with coffee and dessert and social time. Meeting begins at 7:30 and are open to the public and free.

February 17, 2007: Joyce Pelz presented "Attracting Birds and Wildlife To Your Healthy Lawn" at Donzell's Flower and Garden Center.

February 6, 2007: Joyce Pelz presented "Healthy Lawn and Landscapes for Wildlife" at the Mt. Zion/ Bath Gardeners club. The meeting was held at the Bath United Church of Christ on West Bath Rd near the Police Station.
