Favorite Birding Areas in or near Akron

This page gives some information and links to pages about some of our favorite birding areas in or relatively near the Akron area. The best times of year to see specific species at different sites varies, but this information gives you a starting point in your search for "hot" areas.

• Crane Creek State Park
  
• Ottawa Wildlife Refuge

• Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area

• Tinkers Creek State Nature Preserve
  Take I-480 to the Twinsburg-Aurora exit. The reserve is 4 miles southwest of Aurora, 1.5 miles west of Hudson-Aurora Road on Davis Road. The reserve consists of 500 acres of marsh and a number of spring-fed ponds.
  
• Lake Rockwell
  Take County Road 797, in Portage County, about 2 miles north of Kent, or Ohio 14 where it crosses the upper end of the reservoir. 800 acre site with large lake, and surrounding woodlands.
  
• Berlin Reservoir
  Located midway between Youngstown, Akron, and Canton, the area can best be reached on US 224, which crosses the reservoir. 6700 acre reservoir.
