So you would like to meet the officers. Well, grab a cup of coffee and a comfortable seat and we'll introduce ourselves. OK, Mark, you get to start...
I've been very interested in all aspects of nature for many years, thus explaining my involvement in Audubon. I started as a typical Audubon member who occasionally attended a local chapter meeting. Ultimately, I joined the Executive Committee and served as Membership Chairperson. I became chapter president in September 2000, and have discovered that it's rewarding to make contributions, even when sometimes seemingly very small, to the Audubon goal of protecting wildlife and its habitats. But, if we all make contributions, even if small, then great results can be achieved!
I'm no longer new at being GAAS president, but I still ask for your patience and assistance! I'd also like to receive feedback from members about our chapter. If you've got ideas on how to do current things better, or ideas on new things that we should be doing, let me know!
My wife, Cathy, and I have been members of Audubon for a number of years but are not real "birders". We think it is a great organization that needed our support. However, we do recognize most of the birds that are regulars at our feeders, such as cardinals, goldfinches, sparrows, woodpeckers, etc. And, Cathy was one of the folks responsible for the Audubon Naturealm Garden (I dug a few holes, too.) I would consider myself useless during the Christmas Bird Count except to make chili (we'll see about that one, too.) After being approached by Mark Purdy, I agreed to become Treasurer of GAAS after finally losing two-out-of-three falls to my long-time friends Wolfgang, Joyce, Mark and Claire.
Louisa doesn't have much to say here.
