Bath nature preserve census walks
About the Preserve
The Bath Nature Preserve, owned by Bath Township, consists of over 400 acres, and contains a variety of habitats, including grasslands (with good populations of Bobolinks and Meadowlarks), wetlands, scrubland, deciduous forests, riparian corridors, ponds, and a remnant tamarack bog. The University of Akron has an agreement with the township for using the preserve for research and teaching. In addition, UA is responsible for the preserve management plan.
Request for assistance
The University of Akron Field Station at Bath Nature Preserve is seeking knowledgeable birders to serve as guides for scheduled bird census outings, beginning in April. Volunteers will take the lead for a group of birders with varying levels of expertise. Bath Nature Preserve consists of 6 different trails, each of which will be censused at least once per month, through the Fall. UofA/FS will send notices of census birdwalks and respondents will have a range of birding expertise from novice to expert.
This notice is seeking leaders with a high level of bird recognition. Since it will cover the range of bird seasonal presence (migration North, migration South, and Summer resident) so familiarity with the timing of bird presence is important.
Volunteers for these lead roles will be required to submit results for each outing in eBird. Each BNP Trail has a unique hotspot.
