Speaker: Larry Hunter Date & Location: June 28, 2022 GAAS Annual Picnic, Martin Field Station, Bath Nature Preserve, 6:30pm Topic: The presentation will deal with the history of the Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association (PLPMA) and its activities. The PLPMA was instrumental in getting the Portage Lakes area designated as the Purple Martin Capital of Ohio. Larry will also bring some materials for a show-and-tell. Location and Event Information: There will no formal nature walk, but we encourage interested parties to bring their binoculars and go for a walk. The potluck picnic will be at about 6:30pm, so there should be time for a walk beforehand or possibly after the picnic. For the picnic, GAAS will provide beverages and accessories (plates, cups, napkins, etc). Attendees only need to bring a potluck dish for sharing. To get to the Field Station, just drive past the first parking lot and continue on the road until it ends. Biography:
Larry has been involved with the PLPMA as one of the founding members since 2000. He has received numerous awards for his work with the organization, including: EARTH HERO AWARD - Summit Metro Parks HIXON AWARD - Portage Lakes Kiwanis OHIO SENIOR CITIZEN HALL OF FAME AWARD - State of Ohio He has appeared on WILD OHIO TV show sponsored by ODNR Div. of Wildlife, Carl Bachtel 's Channel 3 outdoor program and been interviewed for multiple newspaper articles about the PLPMA. Larry and his wife, Judy, have been married for 54 years. He still goes to work every day at their company in Canton, OH at which they manufacture custom molded rubber products and high performance brake pads for racing. |
