Firestone Metro Park, Tuscarawas Meadows Area 2620 Harrington Rd., Akron, OH 44319 Saturdays at Firestone start on April 27 and continue through May! Think in terms of a gathering of friends who enjoy birding together. There are always several very good birders present and we all help one another find and identify species. Meet at the bridge nearest the Tuscarawas Meadows parking lot. The first leg of the walk is always along the feeder race and we walk slowly, so it is easy for late arrivals to find us. Birders can arrive and leave at any time, and the trails are well groomed (but can be wet and muddy) and flat. Bring binoculars and birding geniality. For any questions about the walk, contact Ned DeLamatre at [email protected]. |
History
For a number of years, naturalist Pat Rydquist led a group of birders at Firestone Metro Park every Friday morning in May. This activity attracted about twenty to thirty participants every week. After Pat retired around 2017, many of her followers continued the tradition on their own. Starting 2023 we met around 7:30am beginning the last Saturday in April and every Saturday through May.
In May 2020 we found twenty species of warblers in one day. All levels of birders are welcome. Participants can arrive and leave at any time, we walk very slowly and the trails are well groomed and flat.
